inuyasha_fanfic contest back in March. ^^;;
Title: She Understood
Genre: Romance/Angst
Pairing: InuYasha/Kagome
Word count: 100
Rating: PG
Summary: Taking place after the events with Gatenmaru (Manga 19, Anime episode 52), InuYasha reflects on three words Kagome said to him during that most painful time.

I thought she was scared of me.
She seemed cautious, quiet.
Had I... shattered the trust of the first person I ever trusted myself?
I told her, not to force herself to stay beside me.
...But she stayed.
I couldn't say how it hurt upon realizing I'd mindlessly slaughtered those soldiers, or my fear that next time her blood could be staining my claws.
...But I didn't have to.
"InuYasha... I understand," She knew what I couldn't say.
And as Kagome leaned against me, her hand near mine- I squeezed back, and felt the pain and fear slowly ebb away.

Summary: In exchange for Naraku's heart, Kohaku gains back his own soul.

Eyes determined, features far too haunted for a boy of eleven- Kohaku swung his scythe, shattering the mirror that threatened to capture what kept him who he truly was- his soul.
Were she able to emote, Kanna would have been undeniably startled.
The scythe snaked out again, aiming for the form the detachment held.
It struck true.
Naraku's heart within the baby smashed, his life extinguished once and for all.
Walking off, the smallest of smiles crossed Kohaku's lips. He sheathed his weapon. In exchange for destroying he who'd controlled him so long, he'd finally gained back his own soul.
