SHINJIRU~ A Loving Trust
A Higurashi Kagome x InuYasha FST
Now I know the reason I came into this world. It was to be with you.
Kagome x InuYasha...
InuYasha and Higurashi Kagome are the lead couple of legendary mangaka Takahashi Rumiko’s current long-running series InuYasha- Sengoku o Togi-Zoushi. (InuYasha- A Feudal Fairy-Tale.) If you're an anime or manga fan and haven't heard of this series, I'd be sincerely surprised. It's rocketed to astronomical popularity among teenagers, adults, and children all across the globe. A primary factor in that popularity is the personable lead characters and their very real, but very wonderful relationship.
InuYasha began in November of 1996 and is still going strong to this day. It is currently on its fiftieth manga volume. It was adapted into an anime in October of 2000 and ran 167 episodes, concluding in September of 2004. However, the animation studio has continued to market the series by producing image songs, movies, drama cds, and fandiscs.
They are a unique couple, even amongst Takahashi's own works. A sprinkle of Kyoko and Godai (Maison Ikkoku), a dash of Ranma and Akane, a splash of Kosaku and Angela (One Pound Gospel), and a generous portion of Suzuko and Shukumaru (fellow sengoku jidai romancers from Firetripper.) Even then it's still a stretch, and you'd need to remove and add a heck of a lot of ingredients to make something that comes close to the perfect recipe for Kagome and InuYasha's relationship.
For me this recipe equates to 'best OTP evarrrrr,' and something worthy of releasing my usual quiet and dormant fangirlish tendancies. (Come on, we all have them.)
Higurashi Kagome- Fifteen Years Old- Tokyo Japan (Modern Age)
Short Profile: Before her fifteenth birthday, Kagome led a somewhat ordinary life at the Shinto shrine she called home. However, upon her birthday she found herself transported via an ancient well entombed in the shrine to sengoku jidai. There her way of life did a complete 180, and hasn’t come around since. From there she discovered that the Shikon no Tama was in her body, that she held Miko abilities, that she was the reincarnation of the previous protector of the jewel, Kikyou, and she unsealed the Hanyou- InuYasha. After an accident, she began an adventure with InuYasha to complete the Shikon no Tama she unintentionally shattered. Soon after, they find themselves embarking on a journey to defeat the villain of the series, Naraku, as well.
On the subject of personality, she is fairly mild-mannered. She does have a temper that usually flares up when she loses patience with InuYasha. Kagome is determined, resourceful, compassionate, and often selfless, but also has the tendency to be apprehensive and insecure. However, she is undeniably courageous, this showing especially when someone she holds close is endangered.
InuYasha- Fifteen- Musashi's Domain, Japan (Sengoku Jidai [Feudal Warring States Era])
Short Profile: InuYasha is a hanyou, half human half youkai, or as Takahashi Rumiko describes him “a boy with the strength of a youkai and the heart of a human.” During the series, the abilities he holds due to his heritage work to his advantage more often than not. However, throughout his life InuYasha has been ostracized due to his mixed blood. “I wasn't a youkai. I wasn't human. I couldn't go with either.” Presumably, after being on his own for several years InuYasha came upon the Miko- Kikyou. However, a betrayal doomed their relationship and the Hanyou found himself sealed to the God Tree- Goshinboku in what was to be an eternal sleep. Kagome was able to release him though, and from there he began his adventure with her.
InuYasha is brash, gruff, naïve, boisterous, a bit cocky, and unsophisticated for the most part. He is also incredibly insecure, often using said behavior as a façade. His personality is intense. When he makes a promise, it is with absolute honor and sincerity. He is utterly compassionate, although it comes out often as rash demands. These are not behaviors we see at the beginning of the series, but attitudes he becomes more comfortable with displaying as the manga goes on.
Kagome and InuYasha... together
As I noted above, their relationship is hard to put into words. While they bicker like an old married couple- they also have such a deep emotional bond that it's completely unwavering. This unique blend makes their day to day quest of seeking out Naraku and restoring the Shikon no Tama range from comedic to somber, lighthearted to prophetic. They have their share of problems, and these make their relationship bittersweet at times. However, they are overall an 'optimistic' pairing. If there were ever a couple that I believe is guaranteed a happily ever after, it would be this one. Why? Because they wouldn't have it any other way. They're too stubborn. ^_~
One moment they might be arguing in front of Kagome's confused modern era friends regarding why he insists on following her to school (after he's interrupted her make-up math exam by pressing his face against the classroom glass in order to gain her attention), while next, InuYasha holds a Kagome he thinks is dead in his arms and sheds his first tears. In short, their love runs the gambit and they are all the more closer because of it.
About this FST...
This was a difficult FST for me to assemble (as well, it is my first FST). For one thing, Kagome and InuYasha's relationship isn't one of physical attraction or sexual advances. It's a purely emotional one, and that made it extra tough to find songs that match up well. Most songs, unless you get into teenybopper pop, have a more adult feel to them. I wanted to capture the innocence, the youth, and the sometimes rather childish (in an endearing way) insecurities and feelings that are all a part of their romance. I do admit that this FST is slightly (if not substantially more) centered on InuYasha's feelings and character than it is Kagome. This was a bit of an odd twist considering that although I do adore InuYasha to bits, I love Kagome even moreso. There are a few 'facets' of their relationship that I was not able to cover, because nothing I found was working for me. However, I hope this FST is successfully able to represent Kagome and InuYasha's dynamic relatonship.
There are four continuing themes throughout many of these songs- trust, beside you, protection, and home. These are the four themes I see as most prevalent in their romance, and as such seem to have unintentionally wormed themselves into a great deal of the chosen lyrics. This compilation is organized to be somewhat in chronological order, although many of the songs seem to be be as if they are looking back into a certain past event from some point in the future. I did try to make sure the entire song fit the pairing, not just the snippet I pulled. So some of those 'themes' may be in the rest of the lyrics.
It is twenty-eight tracks (twenty-six FST tracks and two bonus tracks), and is broken down into two parts. The FST will fit neatly on two CDs with room to spare. There are individual MP3s, separate zip files for parts one and two, and a zip for the full FST. Whoever wrote these obviously did their homework.

Either the battle at Ogre's rock (volume thirty-six) and the following scene where InuYasha takes Kagome up in the tree since it did serve as the end of the anime. The two bonus tracks I've included are Kagome and InuYasha's respective image songs. I can't deny that these fit the relationship much better than anything on this FST. Not just because they're image songs, but because they're just about some of the most perfect image songs I've ever come across as far as matching up to the characters they were written for. Whoever wrote these obviously did their homework.
